Academy Awards set Oscars 2023 for March 12

Academy Awards announced that the Oscars 2023 ceremony will take place on March 12. The new date for the 95th Academy Awards is a little earlier than last year when they were held on March 27, which was relatively late owing to the February Olympics. However, it will maintain an extended awards season, which critics feel deprives the Oscars of drama.

There was plenty of drama at the 94th Academy Awards. However, not in the way the film academy planned. The controversial slap by Will Smith of presenter Chris Rock dominated the Oscars on a night. The same night, Apple TV+’s “CODA” become the first film with a pretty much entirely deaf crew and the first film from a video service to win an oscar.

Smith’s actor-wife Jada Pinkett Smith, who suffers from alopecia, was the subject of a joke from Rock. Smith came on to the stage after seemingly grinning at the remark and slapped Rock, in what will go down in Oscar history as one of the most startling events. Smith went to his seat and yelled at a visibly confused Rock. However, Smith later apologized to the Academy Awards. He accepted his mistake. As a disciplinary action, the actor can no longer attend any Academy events for 10 years. He also resigned from the Academy. The same night, Smith had also won the award for his film, ‘King Richard’. As of now, there are no more details available about the 2023 Academy Awards.
