‘The Exorcist’ is getting a movie reboot and it’s a trilogy

Do you also miss the classic Exorcist-style horror movies? Blumhouse and Morgan Creek Productions are now working on a reboot of The Exorcist in collaboration with Universal and Peacock.

Leslie Odom Jr. will feature in the remake, with Ellen Burstyn reprising her role as Chris MacNeil. Then, the first of three planned films will be directed by David Gordon Green.

Universal and Peacock have purchased the worldwide rights to produce new IP based on The Exorcist series in conjunction with Blumhouse and Morgan Creek, and there will be at least three films in the reboot.

On October 13, 2023, the first film of the planned trilogy will release in theatres. The Exorcist reboot will release in cinemas and on Peacock for the NBC Universal streaming service to continue to draw new customers.

The first Exorcist film was based on William Peter Blatty’s novel of the same name. It won Blatty an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay in 1971. The film received ten Oscar nominations. It included best picture and best director, as well as nods for Ellen Burstyn, Jason Miller, and Linda Blair for acting.

Peter Sattler and filmmaker Green are also writing the sequel to The Exorcist. Executive producers include Jason Blum, David Robinson, James Robinson, Green, Danny McBride, and Couper Samuelson.
