Bezos and Sánchez’s Ultra-Luxury Venice Wedding: A $500M yacht, 30-carat diamond, and 200 VIPs

When the world’s second-richest man throws a wedding, you can expect it to be anything but understated. Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s three-day wedding celebration in Venice, Italy, is not just a union—it’s a masterclass in billionaire showmanship. From a $500 million yacht and a 30-carat diamond to celebrity-packed guest lists and exclusive island takeovers, the event blends opulence with optics in ways only the ultra-wealthy can.

Here’s a closer look at what’s being called one of the most extravagant weddings in recent memory.

Why Venice? A billionaire’s playground turned private paradise

Venice, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is known for its canals, gothic architecture, and strict preservation laws. For Bezos and Sánchez, that made it the perfect backdrop.

They reportedly booked the entire San Giorgio Maggiore island, one of the city’s most iconic spots. That means tourists were politely nudged aside while an A-list affair unfolded behind cordoned docks and velvet ropes.

Even transportation wasn’t left to chance; 30 of the city’s 280 water taxis were reserved for the wedding’s logistics. Think of it as Uber Black, but for canals and celebrities.

What made the ceremony aboard Koru so unique?

At the heart of this spectacle is Koru, Bezos’ $500 million yacht. Spanning over 400 feet and complete with a helipad and swimming pool, the vessel doubled as both a ceremonial stage and a floating fortress of privacy.

A particularly on-brand detail? The ship’s mermaid figurehead, rumored to be modeled after Sánchez herself.

Hosting the wedding at sea offered both glamour and discretion, shielding guests from paparazzi while maintaining a postcard-perfect view of Venice’s skyline.

How did Bezos and Sánchez’s love story lead to this moment?

Their relationship has been public since 2019, following Bezos’ high-profile divorce from MacKenzie Scott. Sánchez, previously married to Hollywood agent Patrick Whitesell, also shares a child with NFL legend Tony Gonzalez.

The engagement became tabloid gold in May 2023, when Bezos proposed with a 30-carat pink diamond—estimated at $5 million. Sánchez joked in a TV interview that she was “just like every other bride” with a Pinterest board. Except her Pinterest came with yacht blueprints and Met Gala-level guest coordination.

Who made the guest list, and why does it matter?

The wedding guest list read more like a Vanity Fair Oscars party:

  • Leonardo DiCaprio (despite that famous “jealous Bezos” meme)
  • Jay-Z and Beyoncé
  • Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner
  • Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner
  • Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner
  • Queen Rania of Jordan
  • Mick Jagger, Eva Longoria, Orlando Bloom, and Oprah (rumored)

Also attending were their combined families: Sánchez’s three children and Bezos’ four children with MacKenzie Scott.

This blending of worlds—from Silicon Valley and Hollywood to royalty and reality TV, reinforces Bezos’ post-Amazon image as a media-savvy mogul with a new orbit.

Why are some Venetians protesting the spectacle?

While the wedding captivated media and fashion blogs, some locals weren’t clapping. Protest group No Space for Bezos staged demonstrations near tourist hubs, decrying the increasing privatization of public spaces by the ultra-rich.

Their main grievance: that Venice is becoming less livable and more rentable to billionaires. Mayor Luigi Brugnaro attempted to balance celebration with caution, assuring residents that the event would respect Venice’s heritage and environmental regulations.

Still, the optics of fencing off historic landmarks for a billionaire wedding didn’t sit well with everyone.

Where did the wedding party stay?

After the vows aboard Koru, the newlyweds and guests reportedly retreated to some of Venice’s most exclusive hotels:

  • Aman Venice: The very palace where George and Amal Clooney wed.
  • Hotel Cipriani, St. Regis, Danieli, and Gritti Palace: A roll call of 5-star sanctuaries favored by European royalty and Hollywood elite.

Each venue came with its own legacy, marble columns, and centuries-old chandeliers—making the event not just a wedding, but a curated experience of Venetian splendor.

What did guests receive—and what did they give?

In lieu of gifts, Bezos and Sánchez requested charitable donations, adding a philanthropic touch to the otherwise gilded affair. But guests didn’t leave empty-handed.

Each received a handcrafted Venetian glass gift from Laguna B, paired with artisanal pastries from Rosa Salva, a bakery dating back to 1870. It was a thoughtful nod to local culture—wrapped in silk ribbon and billionaire branding.

Fun fact: Historically, Venetian glassmakers were so highly prized they weren’t allowed to leave Murano Island, lest they reveal their secrets. Bezos’ team presumably got the VIP treatment.

How this wedding signals a new chapter for Bezos and Sánchez

This wedding was not just a personal milestone—it was a public rebranding exercise.

Bezos, once defined by boardrooms and logistics, is now embracing the lifestyle of a global tastemaker. Sánchez, a former broadcast journalist and helicopter pilot, has transformed into a style icon and philanthropist.

Together, they’ve become the power couple of the post-Blue Origin, post-Amazon era—positioning themselves at the intersection of tech, media, fashion, and influence.

When billionaires marry, Venice shuts down

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding is what happens when money meets meticulous planning. It’s part fantasy, part flex—and very much a reflection of today’s era of ultra-public ultra-wealth.

With an island takeover, megayacht ceremony, and protests in the background, it’s more than just a wedding. It’s a statement.
