What is Japan’s space migration program?
Last week, in a press conference, a team of Japanese scientists announced their futuristic plans to create the “Glass” habitat living structure, which will imitate Earth’s gravity, landscape, and atmosphere This will prevent the “weakening” of the human body in zero and low gravity conditions.
The project is a collaboration between Kyoto University and Kajima Construction.
They plan to create ‘The Glass‘, a conical living structure with artificial gravity, public transportation, green areas, and water bodies, similar to facilities on Earth.
‘Their illustrated presentation at a press conference last week showed a giant rotating cylindrical upright structure showcasing rivers, lakes, and park-like amenities for humans to live in when they are not outside the planet’s geography.
It is an inverted cone that rotates to provide a centrifugal force that mimics the influence of Earth’s gravity.
According to The Asahi Shimbun, a final version will take a century to be ready and operational. However, a 1,300 feet tall, with a radius of 328 feet prototype will be ready by 2050.
The one on the moon will be called ‘Lunaglass’ and the one on Mars will be known as ‘Marsglass’.
Researchers will extract elements from the Earth’s terrain and feed them into the glass’s “core biome complex”. The core biome complex indicates a multi-disciplinary field of geology, biology, botany, various physics, engineering, and climatology.
Interplanetary ‘Space Express’
Currently, the idea seems like something out of science fiction. They are also envisioning ‘Hexatrack,’ an interplanetary transportation system that maintains a gravity of 1G even during long-distance flight.
According to researchers space migration will be possible with the help of ‘hexacapsules’.
Hexacapsules are hexagonal-shaped capsules with a movement mechanism developed for the center section.
A small mini-capsule (radius of 15 meters) will travel between the Earth and the Moon, while a huge capsule (radius of 30 meters) will travel between the Earth and Mars and the Moon and Mars.
The capsule will possibly use the same electromagnetic technology similar to that used on Maglev trains in Germany and China.
