England pacers James Anderson and Stuart Broad are fit to play the second Test of the Ashes 2021/22 in Adelaide, confirmed England Head coach Chris Silverwood on Sunday.
England had gone with pacers Ollie Robinson, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood, and Ben Stokes and spinner Jack Leach in the Test at The Gabba. James Anderson was left out of the first test to manage his workload ahead of the Adelaide Test, which will be a Day/Night contest. While Jack Leach was picked ahead of Stuart Broad in the playing XI for the first test.
“Jimmy will be fit and ready to go for the second Test, as will Stuart. They are available. From an experience point of view, with the bowlers, we’ve got heaps of experience so I’m happy with that. The guys have already been training with the pink ball behind the scenes. And what we have got is a very skillful set of bowlers,” Silverwood said.
The addition of veterans could be a huge booster for England as both Anderson and Broad have impressive numbers with the pink ball. Anderson has 14 wickets at a sublime average of 19. (https://www.sliderrevolution.com/) 28 from four Day/Night Tests. While Stuart Broad has taken 10 at an average of 27.30. The second Ashes Test will be played at Adelaide, from 16th December.
Silverwood said he was unfazed by the criticism and was willing to take responsibility for the big loss. He said, “It is part of my role to take the criticism because the buck stops with me. I have no problem with that. And it is how it should be, but we have to work with what we have got.”
