A team receives 12 (100%) points for a win, 6 (50%) points for a tie, and 4 (33.33%) points for a draw. In addition, for slow over-rates, teams will lose one championship point for each over that falls short. In reply to the 400 run mark, England scored only 236 runs in their first innings. Only Joe Root and Dawid Malan scored well. Despite having a large lead, Australia did not enforce the follow-on, and in the second innings, they scored 230 runs. Prompting the home team to declare their second innings 467 runs ahead. England was given a massive target to chase. The team as well as fans had huge expectations from openers Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed. The duo was expected to get the team off to a good start. However, they failed once again. Hameed who got an opportunity after a long gap in a series against India has been struggling to capitalize on the opportunity. In addition, two of England’s top batters, Joe Root and Dawid Malan, were also dismissed after scoring 24 and 20 runs, respectively.
Meanwhile, on the final day, Australian pacers performed admirably. Jhye Richardson, bagged a 5-wicket haul helping Australia claim their second consecutive Ashes series victory. Team Australia has retained their No. 2 ranking after a resounding victory over England. England, on the other hand, is ranked second from the bottom with only 08.33 percentage points.
