1000 first class wicket

James Anderson adds one more milestone in his glorious career. The 38-year-old picked his 1,000th first-class wicket during Lancashire’s County Championship match against Kent at the Old Trafford Stadium on Monday.

Anderson achieved this feat by dismissing Kent middle-order batter Heino Kuhn with a trademark outswinger, caught behind by wicketkeeper Dane Vilas. He claimed the career-best figures of 7/19 in 10 overs with his trademark swing bowling. Lancashire bowled Kent out for just 74 in 26.2 overs.

Notably, the 1000th wicket landmark was achieved bowling from the James Anderson End at Old Trafford. He became just the 14th player to reach 1,000 first-class wickets this century and just the fifth seamer after Andy Caddick.

Anderson made his first-class debut for Lancashire in 2002, at the age of 19. And since then he has picked 617 test wickets in 162 tests at a sublime average of 26.67. He has 30 five-fors and three 10-wicket match hauls by his name. Jimmy is the leading wicket-taker among pacers in Test cricket. He is just two wickets away from breaking Anil Kumble’s 619 wickets record.

Anderson said ‘I could potentially be the last to take 1,000 wickets’

James Anderson

“It feels great. I have been getting ribbed from the lads upstairs because I genuinely didn’t know how many wickets I’d taken. At first, I thought they were going a bit over the top for a five-for. But to see the reaction from the lads was really special and then to get to chew the fat with them after the day was really nice.” Jimmy said after the landmark feat to Espncricinfo

“I have been doing loads of work in the nets. And all I was thinking about today was grooving my action and working on some stuff – I wanted to make sure I bowled well and got into that rhythm. Luckily it came off today. To get 1000 wickets is becoming harder with the amount of cricket that is played across the world. And it is getting less and less likely that it will happen again. I could potentially be the last person to do it which just adds to the feeling of it being very, very special.” Veteran England fast bowler added.
