Momiji Nishiya clinched the inaugural women’s skateboarding gold. She achieved this at the age of just 13 years and 330 days. Brazil’s Rayssa Leal finished second who is also just 16 years and 203 days. The 16-year-old, Japan’s Nakayama Fuma finished third in the inaugural women’s skateboarding event.

Nishiya was excellent in her final three runs, where she scored 4.15, 4.66, and 3.43. In the 2021 Street Skateboarding World Championships, Nishiya won the silver medal where she scored 14.17.

Skateboarding is one of four sports making its debut in Tokyo. The other sports are – surfing, sport climbing, and karate. In Skateboarding, the Skaters have two 45-second runs and five shots at a one-off trick. The best four scores out of the seven get added in the final total.

Both the gold medals of the Skateboarding event were bagged by Japan at the Tokyo Olympics. On Sunday, Japan’s Yuto Horigome created history at the Tokyo Olympics. He claimed the first-ever Olympic gold medal in the men’s event at Tokyo Olympics.

“That was new to any competition. I started to practice that trick just before the finals, it’s something I’ve never tried in any final. I was very nervous but I was so happy I made it,” Horigome told reporters.

“First of all, I want to show (the gold medal) to my friends and family who supported me. Afterward, I’ll keep it in my house. I have other medals on my Pokemon so maybe I’ll keep it next to them.” He added.
