Cricket legends Mahela Jayawardena, Shaun Pollock, and Janette Brittin will be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame before the T20 World Cup final gets underway in Dubai on Sunday.
The three cricketers will be formally inducted by fellow ICC Hall of Famer, Sir Clive Lloyd, before the start of the summit clash between New Zealand and Australia at the Dubai International Stadium. The ICC Hall of Fame recognizes the achievements of the legends of the game from cricket’s long and illustrious history.
Mahela Jayawardena retired as one of Sri Lanka’s greatest ever players. He played 652 international matches, comprising 149 Tests, 448 ODIs, and 55 T20Is. He was also the key member of the team that won the T20 World Cup in 2014 and reached four other major ICC finals.
Shaun Pollock was one of the finest bowling all-rounders the game has ever seen. He was the first player to achieve the 3,000 run and 300 wicket double in both Test and ODI cricket. The South African all-rounder went on to play 108 Tests, 303 ODIs, and 12 T20Is across 13 years. Pollock scored 7386 runs and took 829 wickets in international cricket, which is the seventh most of all time.
Brittin, who died in 2017, was a mainstay of the England Test team for 19 years. She paved the way for women’s cricket between 1979 and 1998. She is the highest run-scorer (1935 at 49.61), and the most-capped player (27) in women’s Test history.
