After a long wait of 1 year and 6 months, Steve Smith has finally managed to score a Test ton. Playing the second Test against Sri Lanka, the Australian batsman went on to score his 28th Test century. - Third fastest player to reach the 28th Test century: Smith has scored 28 Test centuries in 153 innings becoming the third-fastest player to achieve the feat. Don Bradman (72 innings) and Sachin Tendulkar (144 innings) are only two players who have scored 28th Test century in fewer innings than Smith.
- Surpasses Virat Kohli’s record: Smith is tied with Joe Root for the most hundreds by a current player in Test cricket after scoring 28 centuries in the game’s longest format. He left behind Virat Kohli, the top Indian batter with 27 Test hundreds, in the process. Currently, Root and Smith are at 28 Test centuries, Kohli at 27, and Williamson at 24.
- Test average of 60+: Smith has scored 145 runs off 272 deliveries and 16 boundaries, remaining unbeaten. This is Smith’s second century in a Test versus Sri Lanka. Smith’s Test average increased to 60 with 8100 runs. He became the lone player with a 52+ average among Australia’s top 10 run-scorers.
- Second most away centuries for Australia: In 74 innings, Smith has amassed 14 Test hundreds. He has an average of 57.86 away from home. Currently, he is at par with Allan Border. Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh have 16 centuries each.
