AI jobs take over? IBM to pause hiring for jobs that AI could do

IBM CEO recently revealed the company is pausing hiring for certain job roles which can be performed by chatbots. Read to know more about the AI jobs and what it means. (hopeclinical.com)

IBM to replace humans with AI for some jobs

In a recent interview, Arvind Krishna the Chief Executive Officer of International Business Machines (IBM) Corp. stated the company may soon pause hiring for roles that can be substituted with AI. He suggested that hiring in human resources may be slowed or paused. As per Krishna, mundane HR tasks such as offering employment verification letters and moving employees from one department to another, etc can be fully automated.

“I could easily see 30 percent of that getting replaced by AI and automation over five years,” stated Krishna. As per the CEO’s estimates, IBM may sack about 7,800 employees. James Kavanaugh, the Chief Financial Officer of the firm earlier revealed new efficiency and productivity steps will help IBM drive about $2 billion in savings by 2024. However, the decision of replacing employees with AI was announced a few months after letting go of 3,900 workers. It is one of the largest industrial research organizations in the world with almost 260,000 workers.

More on the emergence of AI bots and beyond

The fear of AI taking over human jobs and lives has been rampant with the development of ChatGPT and others going viral. Within a few months of its debut, the ObenAI-developed chatbot made headlines and shocked the world. The field has forced several firms and rethink and adapt to the technology’s uncharted territories. However, it comes with the collateral damage of humans becoming jobless.

As per a recent Goldman Sachs report, AI jobs may soon become the norm. It revealed that they could potentially replace about 300 million full-time jobs in the coming days. It added that the “generative Ai’s” ability to replace these jobs. As per the report, ‘Generative AI’s’ ability to create 3D models, videos, text, and audio is unnoticeable from human work is “a major advancement,” and would have an impact on jobs everywhere.
