Mark Zuckerberg unveils his first email ID used for Facebook

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg Shares Fascinating Tidbit on Threads

In a surprising revelation, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg disclosed the email ID he used to create his first-ever Facebook profile. The announcement was made on Threads, in response to a humorous post by another user.

The buzz began with an artist’s post stating, “I’m you had to have a .edu email address to join Facebook years old.” Zuckerberg, known for his witty social media engagements, replied, “Real ones know. First account was [email protected].”

While it is well-known that Zuckerberg was the first person to create a Facebook account, it turns out he wasn’t the first to have an ID on the platform. According to The Guardian, three other IDs were created for testing purposes before Zuckerberg’s. These test IDs were later deleted, officially making Zuckerberg the first person to have a Facebook ID.

Following Zuckerberg, Facebook co-founders Chris Hughes and Dustin Moskovitz were the second and third individuals to receive Facebook IDs, respectively.

Social media reactions

The exchange quickly went viral, with netizens sharing nostalgic comments. One user remarked, “Pretty sure I took an adult education class at the local university so I could get a .edu account at least partially so I could meet this requirement. (Still the only college credit I have today.)”

Another reminisced, “I remember being a senior in high school and the thing I was most excited about was graduating so I could finally apply for a Facebook account with my college email. It was all I cared about at the time.”

Others speculated about the now-famous email address, with one user humorously noting, “So many people will now test that email.” Another added, “I entered college in the fall 2004. I remember when we had to switch Facebook from our .edu addresses to the accounts we had now! I think late 2005 or 2006 or so?”

The birth of a social giant

Facebook was launched in February 2004 under the name “thefacebook.com.” Initially, it served as a directory of information for college students. Over the years, the platform has evolved, making numerous changes and emerging as one of the most widely used social networking sites globally.

Aside from Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook was co-founded by his Harvard classmates Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz, Andrew McCollum, and Chris Hughes.

As Zuckerberg’s revelation stirred memories among early Facebook users, it also highlighted how much the platform and its community have evolved. The nostalgic responses serve as a testament to Facebook’s enduring impact on social media and digital communication.
