Meta's 'Twitter killer' loses steam: Threads' daily use drops by 50% despite 150 million sign-ups

As Meta’s Threads surpasses 150 million sign-ups, the so-called Twitter killer’s daily use has plummeted, with users cutting their time spent by half, from 20 minutes to only 10 minutes.

According to Sensor Tower data, the number of daily active users on the Threads platform has dropped by around 20% since its launch on July 5.

Data from Similarweb revealed a loss of more than 25% in daily active users on Android phones worldwide. It also demonstrated that usage time was reduced by more than half.

However, these are early days, and as Meta adds more Twitter-like features, daily usage may increase and Threads may reach the momentum it seeks.

The majority of Threads’ users are from India, Brazil, and US

“While it’s early days, we’re excited about the initial success of Threads, which has surpassed our expectations. We launched the app just over a week ago, and our focus now is on ensuring stable performance, delivering new features, and continuing to improve the experience in the coming months,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.

According to data.ai, India leads the way in terms of new app downloads, accounting for 33% of global downloads. It is followed by Brazil (22%), and the United States (16%).

Musk said that global Twitter usage was up 3.5 percent.

Twitter has also started sharing the ad money from profile page views with eligible creators.

Musk also stated last week that Twitter is still in the deficit following a big 50% decrease in advertising revenue and heavy debt from the past.
