China woman leaves her dogs and cats a $2.8 million fortune but nothing for the kids

According to the South China Morning Post, an old widow in China opted to give her $2.8 million inheritance to her cats and dogs, but nothing to her children. Siu from Shanghai made a will a few years ago, leaving money and property to her three children. She eventually changed her mind. According to the publication, Siu changed their will since her children did not visit or care for her when she became unwell. They also seldom contacted her. The woman declared that only her pets were there for her, and she requested that all of her fortune be used to care for them and their progeny after her death.

China’s Will Registration Centre headquarters in Beijing stated that while Liu intended to give all of her money to her dogs, this is not authorized in the country

Not only that but a local veterinary clinic has been appointed as the administrator of her estate and is in charge of the animals’ care. Chen Kai, an official at China’s Will Registration Centre headquarters in Beijing, stated that while Liu intended to give all of her money to her dogs, this is not authorized in the country. “However, there are alternatives for resolving this issue. Liu’s present will is one option, and we would have recommended she choose someone she trusts to manage the vet clinic to ensure the pets are well-cared for,” he said.

Liu was also warned about the dangers of entrusting the pet clinic with all of her money before drafting her final, according to a representative of the China Will Registration Centre’s eastern China branch. “We told Auntie Liu that if her children change their attitude towards her, she could always alter her will again,” the official said. The elderly woman’s story has created a debate on Chinese social media platforms. While many supported the idea, others were taken aback. “Well done. If my daughter treats me poorly in the future, I will also leave my house to others,” a user said. “How disappointed and heartbroken she must have been to make the decision not to leave anything to her children,” said one person. A third added, “Children will learn their lesson.”
