1970s sandals worn by Steve Jobs auctioned for whopping $218K

A pair of sandals once worn by the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs were auctioned off by California-based Julien’s Auctions on Monday. It fetched an amazing $218,750. The sale of the aforementioned pair of Birkenstock sandals, according to the auction house, set a record for the “highest ever” sum paid for a pair of sandals at an auction.

According to the auction company, Steve Jobs wore these sandals throughout the 1970s and 1980s. “This pair of Birkenstock sandals were previously owned by Mark Sheff, the house manager to Steve Jobs,” it informed. ()

The auction company further stated that Steve Jobs frequently wore these sandals at critical times in Apple’s history.

“In 1976, he hatched the beginnings of the Apple computer in a Los Altos garage with Apple’s co-founder Steve Wozniak while occasionally wearing these sandals. When Jobs discovered the ingenuity and practicality of Birkenstocks, he became fascinated,” it said.

The sandals were offered for sale as part of Julien’s Auctions “Icons and Idols: Rock n’ Roll” public auction. Which also included memorabilia, apparel, musical instruments, and jewelry belonging to musicians and pop culture figures. Like, John Lennon, Elvis Presley, and Kurt Cobain.

A pair of Michael Jordan’s Nike Air Ships broke the record for the highest sale price for footwear at auction in October 2021 when they went for $1.47 million.

Mahatma Gandhi’s artifacts have also commanded very high prices.

Mahatma Gandhi’s leather chappals were auctioned off in Britain earlier in 2013 and fetched a staggering $300,000. However, the aforementioned pair of leather chappals that Mahatma Gandhi wore were not sold separately at the time. When Gandhi’s Chappals, his last will, and a blood sample on a microscope slide were auctioned off. They brought in around $300,000.
