70-car train derails in North Dakota, spills hazardous materials: reports

According to Fox News, a train carrying hazardous chemicals derailed in Richland County, North Dakota. There were no casualties reported in the event, which occurred Monday morning about one-mile southeast of Wyndmere. The Canadian Pacific train derailed at about 11:15 p.m., according to Valley News Live.

31 railroad carriages carrying hazardous cargo derailed in Richland County

According to Valley News Live, 31 of the train’s cars derailed, with petroleum used in asphalt manufacture seeping from several of them. Crews will allow the leaking materials to harden owing to the chilly temperature, according to officials. According to WZFG, it is predicted to cause the compounds to gel.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Office informed the news source that the surrounding highways of 158 and 159 Avenue Southeast, which are located between Highway 13 and 14, will be closed. According to officials, no rivers or fires are involved in the present train derailment event, according to Valley News. According to reports, the cleanup process will take between seven and ten days.

Train derailments in the United States continue to raise concerns about railroad safety

This is the most recent in a string of train derailments in the United States. Since the devastating disaster in East Palestine, Ohio in February, the accidents have raised worries about railroad safety.

The derailment in Ohio featured approximately 50 cars, which spilled dangerous goods and forced the evacuation of neighboring people.

According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, the chemical discharge triggered by the derailment killed an estimated 3,500 tiny fish across 712 miles of waterways.

Some residents living near the derailment site were also concerned that they and their animals will be exposed to toxins through the air, water, and soil.

On Sunday, another incident involving two Canadian Pacific train carriages derailment occurred in a Chicago suburb. According to FOX32 Chicago, one of the cars was empty, while the other held wheat.

Meanwhile, authorities reported five additional freight train car derailments in Massachusetts on Thursday. Despite the fact that no hazardous chemicals were transported and no injuries were reported.
