Global aviation sector faces turbulent week following multiple emergencies
Just days after the deadly Air India Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad that claimed 274 lives, the aviation industry faced renewed safety concerns as five separate flights across the world reported emergencies within a 12-hour period. The incidents involved technical faults, bomb threats, and onboard scares, raising questions about current aviation safety protocols.
Breakdown of recent flight emergencies
1. Air India flight makes precautionary return to Hong Kong
Air India Flight AI-315 from Hong Kong to Delhi turned back approximately 80 minutes after takeoff on Monday morning due to a suspected technical issue. The aircraft landed safely with no injuries reported and underwent precautionary inspections.
2. Air Arabia flight delayed at Jaipur Airport

3. Lufthansa flight returns to Frankfurt following bomb threat
A Frankfurt-Hyderabad flight (LH752) made a U-turn on Sunday after a bomb threat emerged two hours into the journey. While Lufthansa cited landing clearance issues, sources confirmed the bomb scare prompted the return. Passengers were rebooked for Monday flights.
4. Saudi Airlines Hajj flight experiences a landing incident
A Jeddah-Lucknow flight carrying 250 Hajj pilgrims reported smoke and sparks from its left wheel upon landing. Investigation revealed a minor hydraulic leak, with all passengers disembarking safely.
5. British Airways Dreamliner returns to London
Chennai-bound flight BA35 turned back to London Heathrow on Sunday due to technical issues. The Boeing 787-8 remained airborne for nearly two hours before making a precautionary landing.
Aviation experts call for review
The cluster of incidents has prompted aviation safety experts to call for urgent reviews of maintenance procedures and emergency protocols. “While each incident appears isolated, this frequency of emergencies warrants closer examination of global aviation safety standards,” said experts.
The incidents come amid heightened scrutiny of Boeing aircraft following recent safety concerns, though officials note that multiple aircraft manufacturers were involved in these latest cases.
