Biden undergoes annual physical exam as reelection looms- ‘healthy, vigorous 80-year-old’, says White House doctor

Biden undergoes annual physical exam as reelection looms-  'healthy, vigorous 80-year-old' - White House doctor

After receiving his first physical examination in a year and a half, President Joe Biden was described by the White House physician as a “healthy, vibrant 80-year-old male who is fit to successfully fulfill the duties of the office” on Thursday. Biden’s doctor, Kevin O’Connor, noted one small lesion that was taken out of the president’s chest during the examination and would be submitted for a conventional biopsy in a letter that mainly summarised his most recent physical from November 2021.

Biden, who took office as the oldest president ever, would be 86 years old by the end of a second term

As the octogenarian is generally anticipated to make a reelection candidature in the upcoming weeks or months, Biden’s normal medical has drawn additional attention. Biden, who took office as the oldest president ever, would be 86 years old by the end of a second term.

The biopsy’s results are still awaited. Biden’s gait is still stiff, but O’Connor noted that it hasn’t gotten worse since his examination in 2021. He attributed the stiffness to spinal arthritis, a previously fractured foot, and minor neuropathy in his feet. Biden conducted a “very extensive” neurological examination, and according to O’Connor, there were no abnormalities that were suggestive of a brain or central neurological problem like Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, or a stroke.

According to O’Connor, the examination did reveal “mild peripheral neuropathy” in both feet. The doctor claimed that Biden showed a slight difference in heat/cold feeling but no signs of motor impairment. O’Connor emphasized that since his last exam, Biden’s symptoms haven’t worsened and have really gotten better.

The President occasionally suffers from gastroesophageal reflux

Biden, who contracted COVID-19 in July and then developed a rebound case, has not shown any signs of “Long COVID,” according to O’Connor. According to the doctor’s report, Biden weighs 178 pounds and has a blood pressure of 128/76 and a pulse rate of 69. He now weighs 183 pounds, which is six pounds less than he did in 2021.

According to the study, Biden occasionally suffers from gastroesophageal reflux, which makes him frequently clear his throat and may be a factor in his periodic cough and nasal congestion. Usually, the symptoms are worse right after eating. The doctor advised him to keep taking Pepcid, an acid blocker. Even though Biden agrees that age-related concerns are genuine, he has asserted he is capable of serving as president for four more years.

“Watch me,” Biden has said more than once, including in an interview last week. “I would be completely, thoroughly honest with the American people if I thought there was any health problem, anything that would keep me from being able to do the job,” Biden told PBS NewsHour. “And, so we’ll see. But, you know, I just — I think people have to just watch me.”

His age has already been a target for Republicans

His age has already been a target for Republicans. Last week, Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders gave the Republican answer to Vice President Joe Biden’s State of the Union speech. She emphasized that Biden is “the oldest president in American history” while she is the state’s youngest governor. The Republican candidate for president, Nikki Haley, is urging “mandatory mental fitness testing for lawmakers over 75 years old.”

“When people send someone to Washington, they need to know they’re at the top of their game,” Haley told Fox News Thursday. Haley is advocating for a new generation of leaders, which is in opposition to both Biden and 76-year-old former President Donald Trump. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre responded to a question about Haley’s remarks by highlighting what Biden has achieved as president, including confounding predictions in the midterm elections.

In November 2021, Biden underwent a physical examination and was declared to be in generally good condition

“It is surprising that we get this question when you look at the record of this president,” she said. “He’s clearly capable in so many ways and on so many levels. And he’s going to continue to do that in the years coming.”

An end-of-year USA TODAY/Suffolk University Survey found that 50% of registered voters believe that later middle age, between 51 and 65 years old, is the perfect age for a president. An extra 25% chose the 35–50 age range, which is earlier middle age. Just 1% of respondents indicated that an 80-year-old or older leader would be preferable. In November 2021, Biden underwent a physical examination and was declared to be in generally good condition. Scheduling issues, according to Jean-Pierre, prevented Thursdays from happening sooner. The White House intends to make a summary of the outcomes available, just like in 2021.
