The Brazilian Supreme Court approved the inclusion of former prime minister Jair Bolsonaro in the inquiry into the riots on January 8 on Friday. Justice Alexandre de Moraes granted the Attorney General’s Office’s request to include Bolsonaro, who has been closely associated with planning the events that took place in the Brazilian capital of Brasilia last Sunday.

Two days after the incident, Bolsonaro claimed in a video he released on Facebook that Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva hadn’t been elected president, despite the fact that he had been picked by the Supreme Court and Brazil’s top electoral authority.
Judge de Moraes ordered Meta, the parent company of Facebook, to keep the video and its information so that it may be used to more easily identify the authorship after reviewing the film. The court also mandated that prior to being erased, the data on the video’s reach (number of views, shares, and comments) be made public. The motion to question Bolsonaro will be addressed later, the supreme court noted, noting that he was not on Brazilian soil.
