British Royals not to stay at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle: Reports

Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the British royals will no longer be staying permanently at Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. Here’s everything you need to know.

British royals not to stay at Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace

King Charles II decided to keep Clarence House as his residence temporarily. According to reports, the monarch is waiting for 370 million euros for the renovation of Buckingham palace. The renovations will finish in 2027 and until then, the King will be using available spaces for his meetings and work. Currently, half the renovation work is complete. Buckingham Palace has not undergone renovation since the Second World War.

The palace is overhauled with new and efficient heating, plumbing, and wiring. The money for the refurbishment is coming from the taxpayer’s money through the Sovereign Grant. The grant is an annual fee paid by the British government to the monarch. Additionally, some speculations stated Prince William and Princess Kate will be moving into Windsor castle. However, a source reported there are currently “no plans for them to leave Adelaide Cottage”. Moreover, Balmoral Castle in Scotland will remain empty as none of the British royals opted for it as their official residence. The British daily reported it will be open for tourists in the coming days.

More on the new changes in the royal family

King Charles II and Queen Consort Camilla are expected to spend their days across several castles with Clarence House being their primary residence. The Clarence House is located 400 yards from their former residence, Buckingham Palace. “Refurbishment is very far behind schedule, but the Monarch should be living at Buckingham Palace. It’s the heart of the monarchy in London, otherwise, it risks becoming just a tourist attraction. We effectively have a king without a palace to live in,” reported a source to DailyMail.
