Former president Donald Trump is scheduled to give defamation testimony in the case involving columnist E. Jean Carroll, who accused Trump of rape. Trump’s attorneys requested a postponement of the deposition date, but Judge Lewis Kaplan made it clear that it would proceed as scheduled.
Carroll wrote about the incident in her book
Carroll, who testified that Trump sexually attacked her in a New York department store in the 1990s, turned in her deposition to the attorneys on October 14.
Carroll wrote about the incident in her book, which was published by the New York Magazine, and subsequently filed the defamation action in 2019. The incident allegedly took place in the Bergdorf Goodman department store’s changing room on Fifth Avenue in New York, as described in the book.
Trump categorically refuted the allegations, even going so far as to call Carroll a “totally liar” and declare that she was “not his type.” Carroll filed the lawsuit against Trump despite the defense team’s claims that the president’s executive immunity shielded him from liability.

Carroll’s attorney Roberta Kaplan also provided proof of a number of comments that Trump made against her clients as well as the defamation case on the Truth Social platform. Experts do, however, believe that the argument surrounding executive immunity may play a role in the verdict.
As the case was brought against Trump while he was still President, there were also discussions of the US government defending him; however, all of these stories were fully denied by the authorities.
