Authorities in California have launched an investigation after a man’s home was destroyed by a suspected meteor that resembled a “burning basketball,” according to a report on an NBC affiliate, KCRA.

Dustin Procita heard a “huge bang” on Friday night

According to the outlet’s story, Dustin Procita heard a “huge bang” on Friday night when he and his two dogs were inside their home in Nevada County.

The house, a travel trailer, and a pickup truck were all destroyed by a bright ball of light that several witnesses claimed to have seen falling from the sky. “I heard a big bang.” “I started to smell smoke, so I went onto my porch, and it was completely engulfed in flames,” Procita told KCRA. The Nevada County neighborhood where he resides is peaceful.

“People around here are multigenerational cattle farmers or ranchers,” he further told the outlet. The fire department reports that a call was made at 7:26 p.m. (local time), and a crew was sent out right away. The blaze was put out with help from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, or Cal Fire, after approximately four hours.

The authorities are reviewing the video footage of the occurrence

To determine whether a meteor was the cause of this catastrophe, the authorities are reviewing the video footage of the occurrence. Fire Captain Clayton Thomas told KCRA, “That is a potential cause, but it’s too early to pinpoint one.”

After watching the footage, Pocita expressed his gratitude for the fireball’s 30-foot distance from him. He playfully remarked, “They say it’s a one in 4 trillion chance, so I guess I might be buying a lottery ticket today.”
