Gurugram: Woman confined herself, son for 3 years out of dread of COVID-19

After three years of self-imposed confinement following the outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic, a lady and her 10-year-old son were liberated on Tuesday. The door of the house in Gurugram’s Maruti Kunj had to be broken open by a team of police, health, and child welfare department personnel. According to police, Munmun Majhi did not even let her spouse into the house during the period.

Individuals had a difficult time during the early phases of the COVID-19 pandemic since the virus was still relatively new. As the number of cases mounted, panic spread, and many people became unduly anxious about taking precautions. Lockdown-induced anxiety also resulted in considerable behavioral alterations in people. Some cases of hypochondriac reactions were reported throughout the period, although they faded with the return to normalcy.

When approached previously, the woman threatened to kill her son and herself

On Monday, a team of officials, led by an NGO, approached Munmun and attempted in vain to persuade her to come out. They were forced to flee after she turned hostile, threatening to kill her son and eventually committing suicide. They returned on Tuesday, and after a couple of hours of counseling, they busted open the door.

After 3 years, the father grieved while embracing his son

Sujan, the father, couldn’t stop crying after finally being able to touch his son after three years. The officials promised Munmum that nothing would happen to her or her son because they would look after their health and that the number of COVID-19 instances was extremely low. The couple was admitted to the hospital for a check-up, and psychiatrists were evaluating them.

Sujan rented another property in the same neighborhood

Sujan Majhi, the woman’s husband, works as an engineer for a private corporation. He was summoned back to the office after the first lockdown in 2020 was lifted. Munmun barred Sujan from entering the house because he was afraid of outside contact. He spent the first few days with family and friends, but when he couldn’t persuade her, he rented a house in the same neighborhood.

Munmun promised to go after immunizations for children

Mumnum had promised to leave only after the rollout of immunizations for children. There is currently no vaccine available for children under the age of 12. Sujan approached the police after failing to persuade her, but officers assumed it was a family affair. Sujan met Assistant Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar last week, who video-called the mom and her son. The cops then notified the health department.
