Hush money trial: Donald Trump appears to falls asleep in court

Today marks the beginning of Donald Trump’s hush money trial—the first criminal trial of a former or sitting president—in Manhattan, New York. Former President Donald J. Trump appeared frustrated and fatigued on Monday morning as his lawyers and prosecutors worked out pretrial motions before jury selection in his criminal case.

Even as a judge heard arguments on last-minute concerns in a criminal case centered on sensational charges that threaten to derail his presidential campaign, Trump looked to nod off a few times, his jaw sagging down his chest.

Todd Blanche, the former president’s lead lawyer, passed him notes for many minutes before Mr. Trump appeared to wake up and notice them.

Maggie Haberman, a Senior Political Correspondent for the New York Times, told CNN today that Trump “appeared to be asleep. His head would fall down… He didn’t pay attention to a note his lawyer passed him. His jaw kept falling on his chest and his mouth kept going slack.”
