Japan Airlines plane with over 300 passengers on board catches fire

According to local media, a Japan Airlines plane carrying more than 300 passengers caught fire while landing at a Tokyo airport on Tuesday after colliding with a Coast Guard helicopter.

The plane was seen on the runway of Haneda International Airport with flames bursting through its windows shortly before 6 p.m. local time.

Following the crash, all 379 passengers on the flight were evacuated from the burning aircraft.

According to military officials, the Coast Guard plane was on its way to Niigata Airport to deliver aid to victims of Japan’s deadly earthquake.

According to local media, five of the six Coast Guardsmen were killed in the crash.
