Billionaire Marc Andreessen pays record $177 million for a Malibu mansion

Marc Andreessen, a venture capitalist, buys a sprawling oceanfront estate in Malibu, California. The deal costs $177 million. The Wall Street Journal was the first to report this news.

Serge Azria, the fashion magnate behind the brands Joie, Equipment, and Current/Elliott sold the property. According to the Journal, he originally paid $41 million for it in 2013. The deal tops a previous record for the most expensive California property. Previously, Jeff Bezos, purchased the Warner Estate from media tycoon David Geffen for $165 million last year. It is also the second-most expensive home sold in the United States, after billionaire Ken Griffin’s $238 million purchase of a New York City penthouse in 2019.

What are the features of this oceanfront home?

The property is roughly 7 beachfront acres and is located in Malibu’s Paradise Cove neighborhood. Marc Andreessen and Arrillaga-Andreessen own a home in Atherton, Calif, a wealthy area popular among the Silicon Valley elite.

Azria is the designer behind the brands Joie, Equipment, and Current/Elliott. He informed the Journal that it took him clearly four years to build “something like a village” on the property, including a cinema with a “little French bistro” outside. Kurt Rappaport, the co-founder of Westside Estate Agency, represented the seller.
