Operation London Bridge: Details of Queen's funeral arrangements leaked

On Friday, US-headquartered news organization Politico confirmed that they have documentation that depicts the funeral arrangements post the death of 95 years old Queen Elizabeth II.

Prime Minister will receive the call saying  ‘London Bridge is down’

The Queen is in good health now. And, there is no indication that these plans will be revisited with urgency. As per Politico, under the code-name of  ‘London Bridge ‘, the Prime Minister will receive the call saying  ‘London Bridge is down’ which will indicate the death of the Queen.

In another document, the detailed schedule of 10 days from death to cremation is revealed. As per Politico, the following are the details for Operation London Bridge. 

D-Day

A call will be made to the Prime Minister and all the other senior members of parliament.  An official statement will be put out. Further, plans will be revealed by the royal family.

D-Day +1 – The new King will take over his duties

D-Day +1 - The new King will take over his duties

The following day, the new King will take over his duties. The Prime Minister along with the cabinet and King will address the nation. 

D-Day +2

Depending on where the Queen passes away, different plans to take her body back to Buckingham Palace will take place. 

D-Day+3

King will embark on the tour of the UK by visiting  Scottish Parliament. 

D-Day+4

After arriving in Northern Ireland, the king will receive another motion of condolence. A rehearsal for the procession of taking the coffin to the Palace of Westminster will take place. 

D-Day+5

The procession takes place.

D-Day +6-9 – ‘Operation Feather’

Under the codename ‘Operation Feather’ the Queen’s body will stay at the state Palace of Westminster, it’ll be open for public visit based on ticket slots. A rehearsal for the funeral procession will take place on D-Day +6.

D-Day+10 – The funeral

The funeral will be at Westminster Abbey. 2 minutes of mourning across the country will take place followed by committal service at St. George’s Chapel and the Queen’s burial at the castle’s King George VI Memorial Chapel.

Though, Buckingham Palace officials have declined to comment, either on the leak or the plans. In 2017, The Guardian’ published a long article revealing details of ‘Operation London Bridge.’
