Darya Trepova, the woman seized in connection with the assassination of Russian military blogger Vladlen Tatarsky, has been charged with terrorism by Russian investigators. Tatarsky was killed in a bomb attack at a cafe in Saint Petersburg on Sunday. The attack harmed dozens of people. Darya Trepova will be detained for at least two months, a Moscow court ruled later. Her expression in the courtroom was captured on video.
Following the explosion that murdered the high-profile blogger and vociferous backer of Moscow’s assault on Ukraine, the 26-year-old lady was seized. According to Russia’s Investigative Committee, Trepova carried out orders from “figures based in Ukraine” and carried out a “terror attack by an organized group.”
According to a statement, Trepova gave Tatarsky an explosive-rigged figurine while he was answering questions from the public in a cafe. Soon later, the bomb went off, killing Tatarsky and injuring numerous others.
The Investigative Committee and the National Anti-terrorism Committee had already stated that followers of imprisoned Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny were also involved in the attack.
According to experts, the incident would be used to justify future crackdowns on critics of Moscow’s incursion in Ukraine. Former President Dmitry Medvedev accused the country’s besieged opposition of “waging war” against regular Russians and “executing their compatriots” in a Telegram post on Tuesday.
The deputy chairman of Russia’s security council, Dmitry Medvedev, stated that “terrorists” should be “exterminated like rabid dogs.”
Meanwhile, Ukraine has blamed the blast on Russian regime opponents. In a video, Yevgeny Prigozhin, the leader of the Wagner paramilitary group, stated that he traveled to Saint Petersburg to “respect” Tatarsky’s memory.
“Vladlen Tatarsky tried to consolidate society to fight the external enemy,” Prigozhin said outside the bombed-out cafe, referring to Ukraine and NATO.
