In Russia, an 80-year-old woman has been unknowingly living her entire life with a needle in her brain. The surprising discovery was made while doctors were performing a CT scan. According to reports, the needle is three centimeters long and has never caused the lady any health problems that could jeopardize her life. The team of experts who examined the woman’s MRI reported that she never complained of headaches or other neurological issues. She had no injuries or mishaps that could have resulted in a needle in her brain.

According to reports, the needle was discovered in her left parietal lobe, and physicians believe it had been there since she was a newborn. Doctors believe the woman is the victim of “a failed infanticide” committed by her parents. They believe her parents planned to kill their child by sticking needles into the newborn’s head during WWII. According to a local health authority in Sakhalin, Russia, such incidents were not uncommon during the famine years. This needle insertion method was commonly used to murder neonates back in the day. A needle would be inserted into a soft region on the infant’s head where the skull bones had not developed. The spot then obstructs the needles, resulting in death. Fortunately, she survived.
According to The Guardian, physicians have chosen not to do surgery to remove the needle from the woman’s brain because it could aggravate her condition. Meanwhile, an attending physician is keeping an eye on her condition for any complications or the emergence of new symptoms. They reveal that the unidentified woman is not in danger.
