Russian tourist's body parts recovered from shark's stomach after it was beaten to death

According to the New York Post, the body parts of a Russian tourist who was eaten alive by a shark were retrieved from inside the predator’s belly after it was slain by local beachgoers. Experts confirmed that they recovered the body parts of Russian man Vladimir Popov from the tiger shark’s intestine, according to local news channel Al Arabiya. According to the report, Popov’s remains, including his head and hand, were discovered within the dissected slaughtered shark.

Notably, on June 8, 23-year-old Vladimir Popov was attacked in front of visitors while swimming at one of Egypt’s Red Sea resorts in Hurghada. People gasped as he was dragged beneath the water and mauled to death by the 10-foot shark. Witnesses claimed the tiger shark toyed with his body for two hours.

Retaliation, Safety Warnings, and Unusual Mummification

Following Popov’s tragic death, Sky News stated that Egyptian beachgoers drove boats out of the sea and trapped in a net what they suspected was the animal that murdered him. A video shows a bunch of people mercilessly clubbing the tiger shark to death in retaliation for the Russian tourist. Popov was born in 1999 and lived in Egypt full-time, according to Russia’s Tass news agency.

According to The Guardian, the consulate warned Russian tourists to be cautious when swimming and to rigorously abide by any swimming bans enforced by local authorities in a statement posted on its official channel on the Telegram messaging app. Officials have yet to reveal whether or not the shark that ate Popov was involved in other reported incidents in the area.

Meanwhile, Egyptian museum experts are mummifying the shark so that the gigantic predator can be displayed. The Institute of Marine Sciences and the Red Sea Reserves began the embalming process for the animal on Monday, according to the New York Post.
