Eric Trump Reveals Why Barron Trump Gave Up His Soccer Dreams

TL;DR

Barron Trump, the 19-year-old son of former U.S. President Donald Trump and Melania Trump, has reportedly stepped away from his passion for soccer — and height is the reason. Standing at an astonishing 6 feet 9 inches, Barron realized that his towering frame was a rare, if not impractical, fit for the sport. Eric Trump shared insights about his younger brother’s interests, hinting that Barron is now more focused on academics, business, and cryptocurrency than pursuing athletics.

The Trump Family’s Tallest Member

Among Donald Trump’s five children, Barron stands tallest — literally and figuratively — at 6’9″, making him one of the most talked-about presidential offspring in recent memory.

Despite his public lineage, Barron has largely stayed out of the spotlight, a deliberate choice made by Melania Trump, who has long prioritized his privacy. The youngest Trump rarely appears in public and seldom speaks to the media — a contrast to his more visible siblings, Donald Jr., Ivanka, Eric, and Tiffany.

But now, thanks to Eric Trump’s recent comments, the public has caught a rare glimpse into Barron’s personal interests.

“He Loved Soccer Until He Realized There’s Never Been a 6’9” Player”

Speaking on the PBD Podcast over the weekend, Eric Trump revealed that Barron was once deeply passionate about soccer.

“He loved soccer until he realized that there’s never been a 6-foot-9 soccer player ever,” Eric joked.

While it’s true that most professional soccer players fall well below Barron’s height, Eric’s statement wasn’t entirely accurate — a handful of exceptionally tall players, such as Kristof van Hout (6’10”) and Lacina Traoré (6’8″), have competed professionally. Still, such cases are rare, and agility tends to trump height on the pitch.

Donald Trump himself once acknowledged Barron’s enthusiasm for the sport. While announcing the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be co-hosted by the U.S., Trump said:

“I have a son that loves soccer, Barron… he’s a good soccer player too. He’s a little tall for soccer, but that’s okay.”

From Soccer to Basketball — and Beyond

According to Eric, the former president encouraged Barron to switch sports, suggesting that his height might make him a better fit for basketball.

“I said you’re gonna be a basketball player,” Donald recalled telling Barron. “He said, ‘I like soccer, Dad.’ I thought… at your height, I like basketball better, but you can’t talk them into everything.”

Eric added a humorous touch:

“He might have loved basketball until he realized he still couldn’t jump.”

Ultimately, Eric believes Barron’s future won’t be in sports at all. “I think he’ll use his brain,” he said, hinting that Barron may take after his father’s business acumen rather than his athletic curiosity.

Following in His Father’s Footsteps

Barron is currently in his second year at NYU’s Stern School of Business, one of the most prestigious undergraduate business programs in the country. Sources close to the family suggest that he’s shown a strong interest in finance and cryptocurrency, even reportedly amassing more wealth than his mother, Melania, through early crypto investments.

While much about Barron’s ventures remains unverified — due in part to the family’s tight-lipped approach — reports indicate that the teenager is already building a financial portfolio and exploring opportunities in digital assets and blockchain technology.

If true, Barron’s early success would mirror his father’s entrepreneurial instincts, marking him as another Trump entering the business world rather than politics or entertainment.

The Private Life of Barron Trump

Despite being born into one of the most famous families in America, Barron has lived a notably private life. Melania Trump has consistently worked to keep her son away from the chaos of Washington and the glare of cameras.

Unlike his older siblings, Barron doesn’t maintain public social media accounts and rarely appears at public events. When he does — such as at official family appearances or Trump rallies — his height and composure often become trending topics online.

With his academic focus and growing financial interests, Barron seems poised to carve out a quiet but impactful path of his own — one that balances family legacy with a distinctly modern, tech-savvy edge.

Final Thoughts

At just 19, Barron Trump’s life already blends privilege, intellect, and curiosity. While towering over most athletes may have cost him a soccer career, his next goals appear firmly grounded in business — not sports.

As Eric Trump put it best, Barron may not become the next LeBron James or Lionel Messi — but he might just become the next Trump to make headlines for his business ventures.
