Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and Space X, stated on Wednesday that he will not donate money to either candidate for President of the United States. “Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President,” Musk said in a post from his official handle on the social media platform X.

Musk followed up on his previous post with one about the growing power of government. “The power of government grows ever stronger with each passing year,” Musk wrote on his Twitter account.

The New York Times reported on Tuesday that Donald Trump met with Tesla CEO Elon Musk in Florida over the weekend, as the former Republican president seeks a major cash infusion for his latest re-election campaign. The Times cited three sources who were briefed on Sunday’s private meeting in Palm Beach. However, they spoke with the newspaper under the condition of anonymity. According to the Times, Musk has not spent much money on presidential campaigns in the past, with donations split fairly evenly between Democrats and Republicans.

Musk’s policies and politics have come under scrutiny since he became the owner of Twitter in October 2022.

Even before his takeover, concerns over social media giants fueling misinformation, fake news and biased information surrounded other tech CEOs.

Another major development preceding Musk’s announcement is Amazon founder Jeff Bezos reclaiming his position as the world’s richest person after dethroning Tesla CEO Elon Musk, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index recently. Musk’s net worth is now pegged at $197.7 billion, while Jeff Bezos has a fortune worth $200.3 billion.
