Madeline Bennett Argues Her Monkeys Are Her “Children” and Live a Life of Luxury

In Ann Arbor, Michigan, 22-year-old Madeline Bennett, an avid animal lover, finds herself at the center of controversy. The young woman, who keeps two pet monkeys, Oliver and Oakley, has been accused by online critics of animal abuse. However, Bennett passionately defends her decision, asserting that she offers her primates “the best life” possible.

A unique bond

Bennett acquired her squirrel monkeys from a reputable breeder and treats them like family. Caring for them like infants, she bottle-feeds them formula, dresses them in custom nappies, and even teaches them tricks. “Monkeys are the most affectionate type of animals, the bond you can have is amazing,” she explained.

Life with squirrel monkeys

Despite their demanding nature, Bennett embraces the challenge, describing her care routine as a “full-time job.” Her monkeys enjoy a life of freedom within her home, complete with personal cots and warming blankets. Regular outings to animal-friendly restaurants and adventurous boat and golf cart rides are also part of their lifestyle.

Facing backlash

Bennett’s TikTok posts featuring her monkeys have attracted criticism, with detractors labeling her an “abuser” and arguing that the animals would be happier in the wild. Bennett remains unfazed, highlighting the loving bond she shares with her pets as evidence of their well-being. “People say they would be happier in the wild, but I give them the best life possible,” she stated.

Bennett’s love for monkeys began at 18, inspired by the deep connections she learned humans can form with these animals. Her first monkey, Ripley, sparked this passion, though he tragically passed away due to an inherited illness. Undeterred, Bennett welcomed Oliver and Oakley into her life in 2023 and 2024, respectively.

Critics vs. care

While Bennett acknowledges the chaos that sometimes accompanies life with monkeys, she forgives their mischief, attributing it to their natural behavior. “I’m very lenient with them because I know they’re monkeys,” she confessed. She sets boundaries but emphasizes that her home offers safety and comfort that the wild cannot.

Despite the criticism, Bennett stands firm in her belief that she provides a nurturing environment for her monkeys. “The bond you can have with them is different than any other animal can show you, it’s special,” she remarked. Her commitment to her pets underscores a unique and controversial approach to animal companionship.
