Trump Accuses 'Hijab-Wrapped' Ilhan Omar Of Marrying Brother To Enter US

US President Donald Trump has reignited a long-running and unverified allegation against Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, accusing her of marrying her brother for immigration purposes and calling her “the worst congresswoman in history.” The comments appeared in a Friday post on Truth Social and quickly stirred political controversy.

Ilhan Omar, who was born in Somalia and came to the US as a refugee, has repeatedly denied the allegation over the years. No verified evidence has emerged to support the claim, and independent fact-checkers have consistently labeled it unsubstantiated.

What Trump said in his latest Truth Social post

Trump sharply criticized Omar’s views, her political positions, and her background. In his post, he referred to her as “always wrapped in her swaddling hijab,” and alleged—without proof—that she “probably came into the USA illegally” by marrying her brother.

He also targeted Somalia, calling it a “decadent, backward, and crime-ridden nation.”

These remarks echo Trump’s previous attacks on Omar and other progressive lawmakers of color, which critics have described as xenophobic or Islamophobic. Supporters argue that Trump is highlighting what he sees as concerns over immigration integrity and national identity.

Allegations have circulated for years without evidence

The claim that Ilhan Omar married her brother for immigration purposes first surfaced in right-wing media circles nearly a decade ago. Omar has consistently denied it, calling it a politically motivated conspiracy theory.

Major fact-checking organizations have reviewed public records, immigration documents, and marriage certificates. None has found conclusive evidence supporting the allegation. Omar has also stated that misinformation about her family puts them at risk.

Trump’s history of clashes with Ilhan Omar

Trump and Omar have a long history of public feuds dating back to his first term. Friday’s comments follow a pattern of repeated criticism.

Previous attacks resurfaced in September

In a September Truth Social post, Trump claimed Somalia suffers from “resurgent terrorism, piracy, and corruption” and again suggested Omar married her brother to gain citizenship.

He also wrote, “What SCUM we have in our country,” in reference to Omar and her political statements.

Reaction to comments after Charlie Kirk’s assassination

Following conservative activist Charlie Kirk’s assassination earlier this year, Omar made remarks criticizing political rhetoric around the incident. Trump called her a “disgraceful person” and a “loser” and questioned how she remained in office.

The comments also coincided with a resolution from Representative Buddy Carter of Georgia, who sought to remove Omar from the House Budget Committee and the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. Omar currently serves as the top Democrat on the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections.

Why this story matters politically

Trump’s renewed allegations arrive as US politics remain deeply polarized over immigration, identity, and national belonging. Omar, one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress, has long been a lightning rod for partisan conflict.

His comments may energize his political base, but they also raise concerns over misinformation, targeting of minority lawmakers, and the impact of repeated false claims in public discourse.

Summary

President Trump has repeated an unverified allegation that Rep. Ilhan Omar married her brother to enter the United States — a claim she has repeatedly denied and which has not been backed by evidence. The comments add to the long-standing feud between the two figures and come amid renewed political debates over immigration, identity, and misinformation.
