Bruise on left hand sparks speculation
Health concerns around U.S. President Donald Trump have resurfaced after a new bruise appeared on his left hand, months after a similar mark on his right hand had stirred speculation. The latest spot was noticed during Trump’s meeting with former Major League Baseball pitcher Roger Clemens and his son Kacy at the Trump National Golf Club in Virginia, where videos of the encounter quickly went viral.
Observers noted a dark discoloration on Trump’s left hand, eerily similar to the earlier right-hand bruise that made headlines. The White House has repeated its prior explanation: Trump shakes hands with countless people daily, which can sometimes cause minor irritation.
White House and physician’s explanation
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt downplayed the concern, telling The Daily Beast:
“President Trump is a man of the people, and he meets more Americans and shakes their hands on a daily basis than any other President in history. His commitment is unwavering, and he proves that every single day.”
Trump’s physician, Navy Captain Sean Barbabella, added that the bruising is consistent with soft tissue irritation from frequent handshakes and daily aspirin use for heart health.
Previous concerns: “Cankles” and swelling
This isn’t the first time Trump’s health has drawn public scrutiny. At the FIFA Club World Cup finals, cameras captured him with swollen ankles and bruised hands, leading to online chatter about his fitness. While some speculated the blemishes might be makeup, others suspected underlying medical issues.
The White House later disclosed that Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI), a circulatory condition where blood pools in the veins, often causing swelling. Leavitt clarified that CVI is common among people over 70 and emphasized that doctors found “no evidence of deep vein thrombosis or arterial disease.”
Transparency and April health report
To calm speculation, Leavitt shared notes from Trump’s physician, confirming that all recent tests were within normal limits. Trump’s April health exam described him as being in “excellent cognitive and physical health,” with strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical performance.
The report also noted scarring on his right ear — a remnant of the assassination attempt in July 2024, when Trump was grazed by a bullet at a rally.
Age and ongoing speculation
At 78 years old, Trump is the oldest U.S. president to take office, a fact that has fueled rumors about his stamina and longevity since he was inaugurated in January. Despite repeated reassurances from the White House and medical staff, his visible bruises and swelling continue to feed narratives about his health.
For now, officials insist the marks are harmless side effects of age, aspirin use, and constant public interaction. But with Trump’s every appearance dissected under the lens of public scrutiny, questions about his fitness for office are unlikely to disappear anytime soon.
