Animal control intervenes
Shortly after the call, Animal Protection Police arrived to assist the owner in safely placing the animal back into a vehicle.
According to Virginia Police, the alligator had escaped from its owner, who was driving it from New York to a zoo located in North Carolina. Though the animal was safely returned, officers instructed the individual to leave the county.
A spokesperson from the Fairfax County Police Department stated, “Due to Virginia state code, which prohibits the possession of certain exotic animals not native to the Commonwealth, the alligator and its owner were safely escorted out of the county.”
