Who is Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez? What We Know About the Alleged UFC Freedom 250 Terror Plot Suspect

US authorities have identified Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez as the alleged ringleader of a foiled terror plot targeting the UFC Freedom 250 event held near the White House.

According to the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Alvarez is a Mexican national who allegedly overstayed a visitor visa before being granted Deferred Compulsory Non-Removal Authorization (DCNA) status in 2014. Federal prosecutors accuse him and four others of planning a mass-casualty attack that allegedly targeted President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other high-profile public figures.

The allegations remain before the courts, and Alvarez has not been convicted of any crime.

Who is Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez?

According to DHS and federal court documents, Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez is a 31-year-old Mexican national accused of leading a planned terrorist attack on the UFC Freedom 250 event near the White House.

Homeland Security says Alvarez entered the United States on a B-2 visitor visa but allegedly remained in the country after it expired. The agency said he was later granted Deferred Compulsory Non-Removal Authorization (DCNA) status in 2014.

Officials described him as the alleged leader of a five-person conspiracy that was disrupted before the planned attack could take place.

What charges does he face?

Federal prosecutors have charged Alvarez with:

  • Conspiracy to commit murder.
  • Conspiracy to commit violence on White House grounds.

According to DHS, if convicted on the conspiracy to commit murder charge, he could face:

  • A possible life sentence.
  • A fine of up to $250,000.
  • Five years of supervised release following imprisonment.

The conspiracy charge relating to offenses against the United States carries an additional potential prison sentence and financial penalties.

It is important to note that these are allegations, and Alvarez is entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in court.

What was the alleged plot?

According to court filings, investigators believe the suspects planned to stage a coordinated attack during the UFC Freedom 250 event.

Prosecutors allege the plan included:

  • Launching drones carrying explosives toward the north side of the venue.
  • Opening fire on crowds as spectators evacuated.
  • Using snipers to target prominent political and business figures.

Court documents reportedly identify several intended targets, including:

  • President Donald Trump.
  • Vice President JD Vance.
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
  • Elon Musk.
  • Multiple members of the US Congress.

Authorities say the objective was to create mass casualties and trigger wider political instability.

How many people have been arrested?

Alongside Alvarez, federal investigators have arrested four additional suspects in connection with the alleged conspiracy.

Officials say the group planned to meet in Fredericksburg, Virginia, before carrying out the attack.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not ruled out additional arrests or charges.

What has DHS said?

In a statement, Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis said Alvarez “should never have been allowed in our country” and described him as the alleged ringleader of the failed terror plot.

She added that he and his alleged co-conspirators would face justice through the US legal system.

The comments have also renewed political debate over immigration enforcement and visa overstays in the United States.

What happens next?

Alvarez has already appeared before a federal judge via video conference.

The case will now proceed through the federal court system, where prosecutors must present evidence supporting the charges.

If convicted, he could face decades in prison or a life sentence, depending on the outcome of the proceedings.

The bottom line

Federal authorities accuse Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez of leading a planned terrorist attack targeting the UFC Freedom 250 event near the White House. Prosecutors allege the conspiracy involved drones, firearms, and plans to attack senior US officials, though the allegations have yet to be tested in court.

As the investigation continues, Alvarez and the four other suspects remain subject to the US judicial process, where guilt must be established beyond a reasonable doubt.

TL;DR

  • DHS identifies Abraham Hermosillo Alvarez as the alleged mastermind of the UFC Freedom 250 terror plot.
  • Authorities say he is a Mexican national who overstayed a US visitor visa.
  • Investigators allege the group planned a drone-assisted attack and targeted senior US political leaders.
  • Four additional suspects have also been arrested.
  • Alvarez faces multiple federal conspiracy charges and remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
