Trump condemns Putin’s escalation as “crazy” while criticizing Zelensky
U.S. President Donald Trump launched a scathing critique of Russian leader Vladimir Putin following Moscow’s largest aerial assault on Ukraine to date, while also rebuking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for his rhetoric.
“Something has happened to him. He has gone absolutely crazy!” Trump wrote on Truth Social about Putin. “I’ve always said that he wants all of Ukraine, not just a piece of it, and maybe that’s proving to be right, but if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia!”
Mixed messages from Trump on Ukraine crisis
The U.S. president struck contrasting tones in his remarks:
- Called Putin’s actions “crazy” and suggested considering new sanctions
- Criticized Zelensky: “He is doing his country no favors by talking the way he does”
- Told reporters: “He’s killing a lot of people. I’m not happy about that”
Escalating violence as war enters fourth year
Russian forces launched their most intensive aerial bombardment since the war began:
- 367 drones and missiles fired overnight
- At least 12 civilians killed, including 3 children
- Attacks targeted multiple Ukrainian cities
The assault marks a significant escalation even as Trump continues pushing for negotiations. The Kremlin maintains its “special military operation” narrative, while Ukraine denounces it as unprovoked aggression.
Neither Russian nor Ukrainian officials immediately responded to Trump’s latest comments. The war shows no signs of abating, with fierce fighting continuing along the eastern front lines.
