The largest rollercoaster in Britain "breaks down," forcing riders to walk down a steep slope

This week, the greatest rollercoaster in Britain “broke down,” leaving the terrified adventure seekers to descend the incline on foot. The rollercoaster, known as “The Big One,” is situated at Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach Ground, roughly 450 kilometers northwest of London. On Tuesday, April 11, at around 2.50 pm, The Big One at Blackpool’s Pleasure Beach broke down. The officials stated that inclement weather was to blame for the delay. After then, the ride was apparently shut off for the rest of the day owing to strong winds.

“Due to high gusts of wind, the Big One rollercoaster is closed for the remainder of the day”

A person who was there snapped a snapshot of a line of people descending the steep steps that run next to the track. A spokesperson for Blackpool Pleasure Beach said: “At 2.50 pm on Tuesday 11th April, Blackpool Pleasure Beach stopped the Big One train on the ride’s lift hill due to sudden changes in weather conditions. Guests on the ride were reassured and escorted from the ride by Blackpool Pleasure Beach staff. Due to high gusts of wind, the Big One rollercoaster closed for the remainder of the day.”

The 235-foot-tall The Big One, formerly known as the Pepsi Max Big One, debuted to the public for the first time in 1994, almost 30 years ago. The ride experienced a breakdown in May of last year for about 20 minutes. Then, in leaked drone footage, workers could be seen ascending the lift hill’s steps to comfort passengers. After that, the ride was able to resume, and returned to the station. The coaster was the tallest and steepest in the world when it first opened in 1994, with a drop angle of 65 degrees. The Big One held the record until the opening of Japan’s Fujiyama. According to the Daily Mirror, Pepsi sponsored The Big One until 2011 and it costed £12 million to construct.
