This figure also includes income from bank accounts, a military pension, and proceeds from property sales. He is running in the presidential elections in March and will almost definitely win. Mr Putin has been in power for decades, serving as Russia’s president from 2000 to 2008 and Prime Minister since 2012. The official figures about his income were released after he formally filed his nomination for the March election.

According to the outlet, Mr Putin’s claimed hideout is located in Lake Ladoga National Park in Karelia and consists of three modern-style villas on the beach of Marjalahti Bay, two helipads, multiple yacht piers, a trout farm, and a cow farm for marbled beef production. The Russian presidential election will take place across three days, from March 15 to 17, making transparency more difficult, according to Kremlin critics. Following a contentious constitutional overhaul in 2020, 71-year-old Putin may remain in power until at least 2036.
