Vladimir Putin believes he has earned less than $1 million as Russian President over the last six years. According to a Newsweek story, the discovery came from financial data disclosed by Russia’s election administration on Tuesday. According to the documents, Mr Putin earned 67.6 million rubles, or about $753,000, between 2018 and 2024. This figure also includes income from bank accounts, a military pension, and proceeds from property sales. He is running in the presidential elections in March and will almost definitely win. Mr Putin has been in power for decades, serving as Russia’s president from 2000 to 2008 and Prime Minister since 2012. The official figures about his income were released after he formally filed his nomination for the March election.

Mr Putin has 54.5 million rubles ($606,000) saved in ten separate bank accounts and owns a few vehicles

By contrast, the president of the United States has an annual salary of $400,000, as per the Newsweek report. According to Russia’s Central Election Commission (CEC), Mr Putin has 54.5 million rubles ($606,000) saved in ten separate bank accounts and owns a few vehicles. These include two vintage Soviet Union automobiles (GAZ M-21s) constructed in the 1960s, a Russian-made 4X4 from 2009, and a 1987 camping trailer. The Russian president also has a flat in Moscow and an apartment and garage in St. Petersburg.

The records were released a day after the Moscow Times reported that he has a secret house near Russia’s border with Finland. According to the outlet, Mr Putin’s claimed hideout is located in Lake Ladoga National Park in Karelia and consists of three modern-style villas on the beach of Marjalahti Bay, two helipads, multiple yacht piers, a trout farm, and a cow farm for marbled beef production. The Russian presidential election will take place across three days, from March 15 to 17, making transparency more difficult, according to Kremlin critics. Following a contentious constitutional overhaul in 2020, 71-year-old Putin may remain in power until at least 2036.
