 Boeing 737

A Boeing 737 plane, carrying 85 passengers, slid off the runway at Dakar’s airport, as stated by Senegal’s transport minister, as reported by AP. Ten individuals sustained injuries in the accident. Minister El Malick Ndiaye revealed that the Air Sénégal flight, operated by TransAir, was bound for Bamako with 79 passengers, two pilots, and four cabin crew. Ten individuals were injured and are currently undergoing treatment in the hospital, while the remaining survivors have been provided accommodation in a hotel for rest.

The incident involving the Boeing 737 plane in Dakar is depicted in a nighttime video circulating on social media, purportedly showing the aircraft, marked with the logo of Senegal-based airline Transair, situated on the grass with its wing covered in fire-suppressing foam. HT was unable to promptly verify the video’s authenticity.

What Dakar airport stated?

An investigation is underway at Blaise Diagne airport after an occurrence involving a Transair-owned Boeing 737-300 chartered by Air Senegal. The plane slid off the runway around 0100 GMT (6:30 am Indian time) while preparing to depart for Mali, as per a statement from the airport, as reported by Reuters. Emergency procedures were activated at the airport for passenger evacuation. Presently, the airport remains shut, with plans for resuming operations anticipated within the next few hours. “The airport is currently closed … We expect to reopen the airport within the next few hours,” the airport remarked.

Involvement of multiple Boeing aircraft in incidents

Turkey’s transportation ministry reported on Thursday that 184 passengers and six crew members aboard a Corendon Airlines Boeing 737 were evacuated after one of its tires burst during landing at Gazipasa airport. The occurrence transpired during a flight from Cologne, Germany. Although the aircraft landed on its nose, no injuries were reported. This incident marks the second at a Turkish airport in two days, following an emergency landing of a FedEx Express Boeing 767 cargo plane at Istanbul Airport due to a malfunctioning front landing gear. Again, no injuries were reported, and the crew safely vacated the aircraft.
