T-Rex Skeleton from 67 million years ago sells for over $6 million

Tyrannosaurus Rex (T-Rex) remains auctioned off in Zurich on Tuesday for 5.5 million Swiss francs ($6.13 million) were less expensive than anticipated. TRX-293 TRINITY is a composite skeleton made up of 293 bones from three separate T-Rexs that were discovered between 2008 and 2023 in the U.S. states of Montana and Wyoming. It is 11.6 meters (38.1 feet) long and 3.9 meters (12.8 feet) high. The winning bid of 4.8 million Swiss francs from an unidentified buyer was below the estimate of 5 to 8 million Swiss francs, but after Koller Auctions‘ buyer’s premium and other costs, the final price was higher.

Sue and Stan, two other T-Rex replicas that were found in North America, were sold for $8.4 million and $31 million

A full T-Rex skeleton of remarkable quality was put up for auction for the first time in Europe and the third time overall, according to a statement from Koller, the largest auction house in Switzerland. The bones in the skeleton are original to more than half of it. The remainder is replacements constructed from casts in epoxy resin and plaster. Sue and Stan, two other T-Rex replicas found in North America, were sold for $8.4 million and $31 million, respectively, in 1998 and 2020.

T-Rex is one of history’s most intriguing reptiles. Its enormous height, terrifying teeth, and razor-sharp claws distinguish it as a collector’s item. A T-Rex skeleton dubbed ‘Trinity’ was now up for auction. It was placed on display before the auction so that potential buyers could get a good look at the magnificent creature that once roamed the Earth’s surface. The ‘Trinity’ 67-million-year-old Tyrannosaurus-Rex skeleton stands 3.9 meters tall and is valued between $6.5 and $8.7 million.
