Some shoppers may be eligible for cash rewards from Walmart as part of its recent $45 million settlement. In certain cases, customers could receive up to $500 in refunds.

A lawsuit filed in October 2022 claimed that customers were charged more for certain sold-by-weight products, including bagged fruit than the “lowest advertised per pound/ounce price,” according to a copy of the suit.
This includes various beef, poultry, pig, and fish products that are sold by weight, as well as organic oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, and navel oranges sold in bulk in mesh or plastic bags.
The lawsuit claimed that Walmart engaged in this “deceptive” business practice at its stores nationwide.
While Walmart refuted the charges, it agreed to pay tens of millions of dollars to settle the lawsuit.
“We will continue providing our customers everyday low prices to help them save money on the products they want and need. We still deny the allegations, however, we believe a settlement is in the best interest of both parties,” Walmart said in a statement.
Who is eligible, and how to claim it?
Customers affected by the settlement may file a claim for cash reparations.
Customers are eligible if they purchased specific weighted products and bagged fruit from a Walmart retail store, supercenter, or neighborhood market in the United States or Puerto Rico between October 19, 2018, and January 19, 2024, according to court records.
The amount received will be determined by a number of variables, including whether the customer provides proof of purchase.
Consumers who no longer have receipts can receive between $10 and $25, while those who do may receive 2% of the total cost for each goods purchased, for up to $500.
Customers can find out whether they can file a claim online. The deadline for doing so is June 5.
