X To Discontinue Creator Monetization Program? Here’s The Truth Behind The Viral Claim

A viral report claiming that X (formerly Twitter) plans to discontinue its Creator Monetization Program has sparked confusion online — but the platform’s official accounts have dismissed the rumor as fake news.

Viral claim sparks speculation

The claim originated from the X account Rawalerts, which posted that “an X executive has reportedly suggested the platform may discontinue its creator monetization program, claiming the initiative has caused more harm than benefit to the platform and its community.”

The post quickly went viral, prompting responses from X’s internal handles. The platform’s official Creators account directly replied to the claim, writing: “Fake news.”

When questioned by another X user, AZ Intel, about the source of the report, Rawalerts clarified, “That’s what I’m trying to determine.” The account added that the alleged claim was based on “speculation surrounding X’s staffing structure” but avoided naming any individuals to prevent spreading misinformation.

No confirmation from X leadership

So far, no official statement from X leadership has confirmed or even hinted at plans to shut down the Creator Monetization Program.
Major news outlets have not reported any such development either, suggesting the claim originated purely from unverified social media chatter.

In fact, when an X user asked Grok, X’s in-app AI chatbot to verify the rumor, it responded:

“No official confirmation exists for this claim—it’s based on reports of an unnamed executive’s internal suggestion, amid ongoing tweaks like shifting payouts to Premium user engagement to reduce spam incentives. X’s program has evolved to reward genuine value over low-quality content farming, but discontinuation isn’t announced or substantiated.”

What is X’s Creator Monetization Program?

The X Creator Monetization Program, also known as Creator Revenue Sharing, allows eligible users to earn money from verified engagement on their posts.
The payouts are drawn from X Premium subscription revenue and are distributed every two weeks.

Eligibility criteria include:

  • Active X Premium subscription
  • At least 500 verified followers
  • A minimum of 5 million organic impressions in the past three months

The verified engagement metrics that count toward payout include likes, reposts, replies, and other interactions by Premium users.

Bottom line

At present, there’s no evidence to suggest X is shutting down its Creator Monetization Program.
The viral claim appears to stem from unverified speculation and has been publicly denied by X’s official “Creators” handle.
Until further confirmation comes from company leadership or verified channels, the program remains active.
