According to several media outlets, Amanda Bynes, the former teen star of Nickelodeon’s “The Amanda Show” and “All That” as well as other shows from the 1990s and early 2000s, was placed on a 72-hour psychiatric hold on Monday after being discovered strolling the streets of Los Angeles.
A source close to the situation confirmed that “She hasn’t been in contact with her family for quite some time.”
Bynes’ nearly nine-year conservatorship, which was overseen by her parents Lynn and Rick Bynes, was terminated by a Ventura County judge on March 22, 2022. Bynes’ parents were supportive of the court ruling, unlike Britney Spears, who fought her father tooth and nail to be in charge of her own affairs.
Amanda Bynes had been residing in a “structured community for women
“In the last several years, I have been working hard to improve my health so that I can live and work independently, and I will continue to prioritize my well-being in this next chapter,” Bynes said at the time in a statement shared by her attorney David Esquibias. “I am excited about my upcoming endeavors — including my fragrance line — and look forward to sharing more when I can. Bynes had been residing in a “structured community for women,” and it was expected that she would have an “independent” life and communicate frequently with a case manager, according to court records submitted in 2022 by Esquibias.
Bynes had been scheduled to make her first public appearance since her conservatorship ended at this weekend’s ’90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut, but canceled on Friday.
After quitting performing in 2010, Bynes gained notoriety for her odd and occasionally illegal behavior from 2012 to 2013, which eventually resulted in her being placed under a conservatorship.
