A new comic book follows the meteoric growth of South Korean K-pop sensation BTS, as well as their recent military duty. The 22-page book has been added to TidalWave Comics’ FAME series, which employs the comic medium to highlight musical artists. BTS has become a worldwide sensation with their cheery tunes and social projects focused on uplifting adolescents since its debut in 2013. The glossy follows the seven singers’ rise to fame, as well as their transition from pop stars to soldiers.
Some lawmakers advocated for an exemption for BTS
As part of preparations to guard against nuclear-armed North Korea, all able-bodied men in South Korea between the ages of 18 and 28 must serve in the military for between 18 and 21 months. Olympic medalists and prize-winning classical musicians are among those who have received exemptions or served lesser sentences. Some lawmakers advocated for an exemption for BTS. However, the eldest member, Jin, joined the army in December 2022, and the others soon followed, with the final three commencing their service last month. Fans have sworn that they will not perform as a group again until 2025. On January 10, the book will be available in print, digital, soft, and hardcover forms.
