Oscars 2021 are going to take place this year, in fact on Sunday, April 25th. So, save the date as it is an Oscar Sunday. While safety is critical, Producer Jesse Collins promises to use “science and common sense” in taking “a giant step forward”. Whereas, Producer Stacy Sher said, “that’s possible,” due to all the efforts made by the Academy to keep folks safe.
Oscars 2021: Here’s all the information we know so far
It is an in-person event and not a virtual ceremony.
The show producers in a virtual interview said that the effect of COVID-19 will be featured throughout the show. They also said “masks will play a very important role” in the story that the ceremony is attempting to convey.
The broadcast’s director Glenn Weiss spoke to PEOPLE about his vision for the show.
“It’s not going to be 3,000 people in a theater,” he shared. “It’s going to be a very intimate celebration with the nominees. I think the viewer is going to feel like they’re part of this intimate gathering, not that they’re just witnessing something from the outside”
While many awards gave participants the choice to join virtually, the Oscars’ makers asked them to attend in person.
Asked what that means for the nominees, Weiss said, “I think the nominees are in for an intimate fast-moving evening as opposed to a bigger show where you could get, I don’t want to say lost, but there’s a lot more going on. I think this is fairly focused on us telling stories about the storytellers because we’re here celebrating them and we’re here celebrating the craft that they do.”
“What you’re going to see is not going to be a standard award show fare… ‘Ladies and gentlemen, your next presenter coming to the stage.’ It’s not about that,” he teases. “It’s more about a true line of these nominees and learning about them. It’s being with them and being a part of this whole journey of movie-making.”
Oscars 2021: Different locations
A spokesperson for the Academy has uncovered that different spots, including the notable Dolby Theatre, will influence the show.
“The Academy is determined to present an Oscars like none other, while prioritizing the public health and safety of all those who will participate. To create the in-person show our global audience wants to see while adapting to the requirements of the pandemic, the ceremony will broadcast live from multiple locations, including the landmark Dolby Theatre,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
The in-person event will take place at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles, with “additional elements” at the traditional Dolby Theatre, according to People.com.
Dresscode
Formal outfits that focus on a fusion of inspiration and aspiration will be the theme of this year’s Oscars.
“Less people, less dresses,” says WWD Style Director Alex Badia, and that means “more attention to the few dresses.”
Furthermore, more tension on designers who desire to dress one of the fortunate few stars ready to join in.
No host
For the third year running, the award show will not have a host. Or at least the same hasn’t been announced till now.
Oscars 2021: Pre-show
There will be a pre-and post-show for the first time in the Oscars. Hosted by entertainers Ariana DeBose and Lil Rel Howery, the hour and a half pre-show special, dubbed Oscars: Into the Spotlight, will feature the nominees’ journey to Hollywood’s greatest evening. It will give fans globally a definitive insiders’ sneak look to the gathering and, interestingly, the designated Best Songs will proceed as a component of the merriments. The show will likewise highlight a unique appearance by DJ Tara. It will air beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT on Sunday, April 25. Colman Domingo (Zola) and Andrew Rannells (The Prom) will be hosting the post-show. Oscars: After Dark will include interviews by film critic Elvis Mitchell. It will also recap the evening’s must-see instances and feature the Oscar winners as they have their statuettes customized.
