The revelation took place in Hall H, where RDJ surprised fans by stepping on stage dressed as Doctor Doom. The actor, who famously portrayed Iron Man for over a decade in the MCU, is now set to take on one of Marvel’s most complex antagonists. “New mask, same task,” Downey quipped, removing his mask to thunderous applause from the audience.
Adding to the excitement, Kevin Feige also announced that the Russo Brothers, Joe and Anthony Russo, will be returning to direct “Avengers: Doomsday.” The Russo Brothers, known for their work on “Captain America: Civil War,” “Avengers: Infinity War,” and “Avengers: Endgame,” were present to share their enthusiasm. “If we’re going to bring Doctor Doom to the screen… we are going to need the greatest actor in the world,” Anthony Russo stated, highlighting RDJ’s casting as a perfect fit for the role.

The Hollywood Reporter disclosed that Downey will reprise his role as Doctor Doom in two films: “Avengers: Doomsday,” scheduled for release in May 2026, and “Avengers: Secret Wars,” set for May 2027. This marks RDJ’s first MCU appearance since his character Tony Stark’s dramatic exit in “Avengers: Endgame.”
