Sometimes, you can’t please everyone. Remake an old game, and gamers complain about the developer being “washed up.” Drop a dope sequel, and the community wonders if it will be as good as the original. Create a completely new idea, and the gaming world shakes harder than an island dweller’s hut during a volcano eruption.
You can do nothing to please everyone, but publishers know when they hit big. Sony does well marketing their IPs, but the games on this list made it to the front page as this article’s creation. Since they are all pretty good games, we’ve decided to give them a shoutout and share the 4 front-page PlayStation Store games that we think you must play before this month is out.
1. Demon Souls
Demon Souls is a timeless classic, and it’s one of the games that inspired one of the coolest, edgiest subgenres we have in RPG experiences this generation. Bluepoint Games and PlayStation Studios worked together to reimagine the original Demon Souls game.
The publisher dropped this remake on November 12, 2020, and it “introduces the horrors of a fog-laden, dark fantasy land to a whole new generation of gamers,” according to notes on their site. We couldn’t have said it better.
Can you believe an entire generation of gamers weren’t there when they released classics like this to the world? Bluepoint Games couldn’t either, which is why we now have the opportunity to express how good this game was.
Demon Souls currently has two versions for sale right now. The Standard Edition will run you $69.99, and you get the base game and whatever updates come “standard” with this version. The Digital Deluxe Edition will cost 20 more dollars, but you get a couple of snazzy armor sets, the Ritual Blade and Hoplite Shield, and many game-based media to enjoy outside of the game.
2. Ghostwire: Tokyo
Ghostwire: Tokyo came out earlier this year, on March 24, 2022. It seems to be maintaining its momentum since Sony continues to give it recognition nearly a quarter after its release. It’s an action-adventure game developed by Bethesda Softworks, so there is already a bit of confidence there.
However, they seemed to have not taken the players’ confidence in them lightly. Players are promised next-gen immersion, with “a stunningly rendered, rain-soaked Tokyo with PlayStation 5’s next-gen ray tracing technology and 3D AudioTech.
Tokyo has been given a nice makeover, and you can explore until your hearts desire. It’s a unique version with wild twists and supernatural turns you’d only be able to understand if you play it. The gameplay is stellar, featuring elemental abilities that you’ll use to express yourself in ways many games of its kind cannot allow.
There are two purchasable editions. The Standard Edition, of course, features the original game in all its glory for $59.99 (at the time of writing this article, it’s on sale for $29.99). The Deluxe Edition costs $20 more. However, you get the Shinobi Outfit and Kunai Weapon on top of the Streetwear Outfit Pack (also on sale for $39.99 at the time of the creation of this article).
3. Returnal
Returnal is in a unique spot in the gaming world, but PlayStation insists on continuing to feed it to the community. Many would argue against this game being featured the way it is. However, it’s still a good experience for those who have tried the game.
It’s a roguelike shooter that features a lot of the elements we know and love from the “die-and-retry” subgenre that has taken over the world of gaming this generation. There are loads of enemies wanting your head, and there are plenty of resources to fend them off until you inevitably reach the end.
This game was initially released on April 30, 2021, but it’s still holding on strong compared to the other titles on this list.
The Standard Edition features the entire game in its original form. The Digital Deluxe Edition comes loaded with perks, including a Reflex Stimulant, Adrenaline Booster, and Pulsating Mass artefact. You also get a new weapon and soundtrack.
4. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
Last but certainly not least is a legendary classic series that has remained afloat since the early days of PlayStation, Ratchet & Clank. This time, the dynamic duo are helping their friends stop a “robotic emperor intent on conquering cross-dimensional worlds, with their universe next in the firing line.
It’s expected at this point to see a convoluted plot device to drive the story to Ratchet & Clank fans. Honestly, it might not matter what the story is since we all come for that silky smooth, wacky, explosive gameplay that helped make the franchise popular today.
This game was released in June of 2021, and it remains one of the PlayStation Store’s bestsellers. There are tons of bad guys to blow up with tons of different weapons on tons of unique worlds. What’s not to love?
The Standard Edition comes with a complete copy of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart for $69.99 (and it’s $39.89 at this article). The Digital Deluxe Edition comes with tons of digital artwork and music content. Nevertheless, you also get Five Armor Sets, a Photo Mode Sticker Pack, and 20 Raritanium for $79.99 (or on sale for $49.59 at the time of creating this article.
