20-yr-old UK woman with spina bifida sues mother's doctor for allowing her to be born

A 20-year-old woman with Spina bifida in the United Kingdom is suing a general practitioner. While she was pregnant, the doctor failed to adequately warn her about how to avoid an illness diagnosed while in the womb. Dr. Philip Mitchell is being sued by Evie Toombes for millions of dollars in damages.

The woman was diagnosed with lipomyelomeningocele (LMM) or Spina Bifida shortly after birth, according to the Daily Mail. Spina bifida, or spina bifida, is an uncommon disorder. In it, a woman’s spinal cord does not grow properly in the pregnancy. Thereby, resulting in permanent impairment. According to the Daily Mail, the showjumping star alleges her doctor did not advise her mother Caroline Toombes to take folic acid to avoid the child being “born in a damaged state.”

Dr. Mitchell encouraged Toombes’s mother, now 50, to take folic acid when she became pregnant in 2001. But she was not aware of its relevance in preventing spina bifida. Caroline claimed the doctor told her she didn’t need to take folic acid if she ate a healthy diet.

The doctor, on the other hand, has denied any responsibility, claiming that he provided Caroline Toombes with “reasonable advice.”

Caroline Toombes’ lawyer claims that if she had waited to get pregnant, she would have had a normal, healthy child.

Evie’s mobility is popular to be severely less as a result of her disease. She will increasingly need to use a wheelchair as she gets older

She now works at Nottingham University, where she educates youngsters about disorders that are not visible to the naked eye. Evie has her website as well.
